At the heart of the Thurrock community sits Purfleet Primary Academy, where ambitious expectations, caring relationships and memorable experiences help children flourish every day.

From the moment pupils arrive, it is clear this is a place where children feel safe, valued and inspired to achieve their very best. Staff know every child as an individual, creating a nurturing environment where pupils grow in confidence, build lasting friendships and develop a genuine love of learning.

These are just some of the qualities recognised by Ofsted during its inspection in March 2026, and we are delighted to celebrate the positive findings in the school’s latest report.

Pupils at Purfleet are respectful, kind and proud of their school. They embrace the diverse cultures and beliefs represented within their community, showing the values that make the school such a welcoming place to learn. As Ofsted noted, “Pupils demonstrate positive attitudes to their learning and clearly love this school.”

Education at Purfleet extends far beyond the classroom. Leaders are passionate about giving children opportunities that broaden their horizons, spark curiosity and build confidence. Through the Trust’s 11 Before 11 programme, pupils enjoy a wide range of memorable experiences before leaving Year 6. Alongside this, visits to museums, theatres and wildlife sites help bring learning to life and encourage children to see the world from new perspectives.

Children are also supported to grow into thoughtful, responsible citizens. Through personal, social, health and economic (PSHE) education, they learn about healthy lifestyles, positive relationships and staying safe online, while developing an understanding of different faiths and cultures. Alongside the school’s focus on sustainability, including recycling and reducing food waste, these experiences help prepare pupils for life beyond the classroom.

This ambition is matched by a carefully planned curriculum that enables children to build their knowledge and skills from Nursery through to Year 6. With a strong focus on reading, writing and mathematics, learning is thoughtfully sequenced so that every child can develop confidence and make strong progress throughout their time at the school.

Reading is a particular strength. From the earliest stages, children benefit from a consistent approach to phonics and early reading, while a genuine culture of reading runs throughout the school. Staff share their own enthusiasm for books, inspiring pupils to discover the enjoyment that reading can bring. It is especially fitting that this recognition comes during the National Year of Reading, when schools across the country are celebrating the power of reading for pleasure.

The report also recognises the dedication of staff in creating a school where every child is supported to succeed. Their high expectations, combined with genuine care and encouragement, help pupils achieve well while feeling happy, safe and confident in who they are.

Every positive inspection report represents the dedication of staff, governors, families and pupils working together over many years. This latest outcome reflects a school community that shares high expectations, celebrates every child’s achievements and is committed to helping young people flourish both inside and outside the classroom.

Congratulations to everyone at Purfleet Primary Academy on this well-deserved recognition.
