Roz Cordner

Roz has been Diocesan Director of Education at the Southwark Diocesan Board of Education (“SDBE”) since 2021 and has worked in education for over 25 years. She initially joined SDBE’s School Effectiveness team as Primary Adviser in 2015 having served as a headteacher in a diocesan primary school, in Merton, for just over ten years. During this period she worked as a Local Leader of Education in Merton and Lewisham and supported and led another local community primary school nearby for 3 years. Prior to that Roz taught in church and community schools in Durham for four years; firstly at a junior school in an old mining village in Stanley and then in a primary school not far from Durham Cathedral.

Roz came to teaching as a mature student having worked as a Civil Servant for the Department of Employment in Poplar and Stepney. She went on to work for Camp America as project co-ordinator for 3 years. This was followed by a role working for a Quaker Charity, Quaker Social Action, in Bromley-by-Bow before finally fulfilling her dream to study education. Roz spent 4 years at Charlotte Mason College in the heart of the Lake District, studying education with RE and PE/Dance as subject specialisms. She completed her National Professional Qualification for Headship in 2004. She has a keen interest in SEND and was SENCO in school and is pleased to be SEND Trustee for REAch2.

Roz still loves the Lake District and also enjoys time on the North East coast visiting family there. She lives in Wimbledon with her husband. One of 4 daughters, she is blessed with nieces, nephews and godchildren and loves a family gathering whether it’s Sunday lunch or a family celebration.
